Evaluating Intercultural Behavior

This intercultural situation occurred when my cousin was around primary 2 or 3. It was Hari Raya Haji, so my older cousin brought the younger cousin to her Malay friend’s house to visit her friend. When the food was served, my younger cousin who was left-handed ate the food with her left hand. The Malay family was shocked and my older cousin was so embarrassed. Luckily, that Malay friend of my cousin went to take a spoon for my younger cousin, which ended all the embarrassment. It was until a few years later then she knew that the Malays eat with their right hand only.

I think it was lucky that my cousin’s Malay friend and her family didn’t get upset with my younger cousin’s behaviour. As from what my Malay friend told me, eating with left hand is considered as bad manners. So whenever you are going to a foreign place, or interacting with people of different cultures, I think it’s best to do some internet research on their culture or taboos. You wouldn’t want to offend them in any ways.=)

Solution to the Conflict on previous post

This was what happened after the conflict.

Both A and B's parents heard about the conflict, so they called both of them and explained to them that quarrels on financial matters is not a reason to annul the marriage and these issues were unavoidable in marriage. They "forced" the couple to sit down and talk things out. So eventually, they opened up to each other and the conflict was resolved.

Conclusion..
Marriage is all about trust.
